Basketball Court for Charles White Park!

While we were just made aware of your October 5 meeting regarding the park, the morning hours most of us are in school or at work and were unable to attend.

We are community members, many of who live in walking distance of Charles White Park. We use the park regularly and have always wanted a basketball court there. In West Altadena there are no public courts accessible.

We are glad the County wishes to invest in our local park, however we are very disappointed to see the basketball court that appeared in the original plan has been changed to a pickle-ball court. We do not think that reflects the diverse interests of our neighborhood.

While a basketball court can be used for pickle-ball, the opposite is not true.

We request that the plan be made to include a basketball court and if indeed there is a community demand for pickle-ball that those lines can also be drawn on the court.

Thank you for your attention to this important community issue. Please contact us if there are other opportunities to weigh in. Please do not leave out the voices of many of us in this neighborhood who have long wanted a basketball court in our park.

Why is this important?

Charles White Park is a super local park in the heart of the West Altadena Community. When County efforts to improve the park were begun, the original plan included a basketball court. To the surprise of many community members, that has been removed from current plans and has been replaced by a pickle-ball court. Many of us do not think this reflects the priorities of our larger West Altadena community. And while a basketball court can accomodate a pickleball game, the pickleball court cannot accommodate basketball. We believe there is an easy solution - to put the basketball court back on the plans - and put appropriate lines on that court to accommodate pickle-ball if there are people wanting to do that.

This smart solution will not be heard unless community members speak up. Please sign the petition and spread the word!
