OUR Walmart

A couple of years ago, a group of one hundred Walmart Associates met in Bentonville, Arkansas to draft a "Declaration of Respect." Today, we've grown to an army of thousands in hundreds of stores across 47 states. OUR Walmart is elevating the voices of Walmart Associates speaking out for change. Together, we are taking this company by storm -- capturing the full attention of Home Office, the Walton family, and the public.

Walmart: Stop Cutting Our Hours! As Walmart Associates, we want to do the best job we can. We come to work every day and are proud of the job we do. We are the people helping customers, stocking shelves, moving inventory, getting carts and other items to their proper places, and making sure we run the store in the best way possible. However, as we continue to carry out this work, we are finding it difficult to keep food on the table, pay our rent, provide for our family, put gas in our cars, and make ends meet due to the lack of hours in our schedules. Today, we stand before you, asking Walmart to follow-through on its public commitment to provide Associates with MORE HOURS and MORE CLEARLY DEFINED FULL-TIME POSITIONS to be permanently added to our schedules. We believe this will help ensure that every store is running to the best of its abilities and that Associates will not be going home hungry, avoiding medical care because we are worried about the high cost, living paycheck to paycheck and choosing between rent and food. We believe more hours and full-time work is a more viable and successful strategy than continually hiring and firing temps and letting go of longtime Associates with invaluable experience. We believe these changes will benefit customers, as when hours and positions are cut, we are no longer able to carry out the necessary work in a timely, safe and efficient manner. It is the right thing to do; for the store, for the customers, for all Associates. One year ago, Walmart said it would provide Associates the opportunity to work more hours and make available more full-time positions. With $17 billion in profit per year, we believe there is no viable reason why Walmart can't follow-through with its commitment and provide these much needed changes. Walmart: Treat Military Families with DignityLisa's story: My name is Lisa Austin and I work in Apple Valley, MN at Walmart #2642. On December 28, 2014 I was disciplined for staying home to take care of my seven-month-old child while my husband was away training with the National Guard.* The training was on the weekend of December 7, 2014. Per Walmart policy, I requested the days off close to two months in advance but was still written up for the days missed. Now I am close to being terminated and am afraid I will lose my job if I have to miss work if Walmart doesn’t approve future dates that my husband is away. The store manager told me that “my absence was inexcusable and everyone has kids.” I was told that I cannot have another absence until June 14, 2015. Military families sacrifice on a daily basis when their spouse is deployed or away from their loved ones. Should a Military spouse sacrifice her child or her job for just needing a day off to care for their baby? Walmart can help associates like Lisa and show its respect for military families by amending its leave policy today. Please join us in showing your support by signing this petition for a national policy that helps all our military families who work at Walmart across the country. *Since I started working at Walmart in October 2014, I had not been working there long enough to qualify for leave under the Family and Medical Leave Act. Walmart: Offer Vets and Servicemembers a DiscountWalmart says that it prides itself on its commitment to veterans. Last year, the company got a lot of press about hiring veterans. But as a disabled veteran and former Walmart employee, I think they can do more. A lot of members of the military and veterans are on a fixed income and some are even on public assistance. These people fought to uphold the freedoms and rights that we are afforded today and a retailer as big as Walmart can help them by offering a discount for active servicemembers and veterans. A lot of people who serve our country rely on Walmart because of its low prices, but an additional discount could really go a long way in helping these families and would show that Walmart really supports them. I worked for Walmart for four years in Pennsylvania and it was so disappointing when soldiers from local military bases would ask if we had discounts and I had to say no. There’s a lot that Walmart needs to do to treat veterans better -- especially the ones who are store employees -- but offering a discount to the servicemembers and veterans who have sacrificed so much for our country is a good place to start. Please show your support to our vets and military by signing this petition.6,410 of 7,000 SignaturesCreated by Wally Lynn

Walmart: Extend your employee discount to cover ALL foodTo many, a 10% employee discount on ALL food may not seem like a lot. But, as Walmart associates, we know it could mean the difference between putting food on the table or going hungry. My name is Nancy Reynolds. I’m a Walmart associate from store 771 in Merritt Island, FL. For me, the food that I’m eligible for with my employee discount isn’t good for my diabetes. I need to eat healthy food multiple times throughout the day and, simply put: that is hard on Walmart pay and hours. If Walmart would extend its employee discount to cover ALL food items, like Target[1], Whole Foods, Trader Joes[2] and many other grocery stores have done, it would help associates and their families across the country. What’s more, Walmart can afford it. This is a win – win. A ten percent discount would allow Walmart associates to spend more money on food at Walmart and in return, we would also be healthier workers. I've even talked to Walmart associates in Canada who said that they receive discounts on ALL of their food, so why not here in the United States too? In the past, Walmart has listened to our calls for change, but it takes associates and community standing together to call for change. The support is there. In our survey of over 3000 Walmart workers, 99% support a ten percent discount on all food. It’s time for Walmart to listen to its associates. The time to act on this is now. Thanksgiving and Christmas are right around the corner. If we can get enough support on this petition before the holiday season, Walmart could change its policy and more associates could have the food we need to provide for our families this holiday season. No One Should get Fired for Stubbing A ToeApple Valley, MN OUR Walmart member, Gabe Teneyuque was instrumental in getting the state's minimum wage passed. Gabe spoke at the State Capitol, collected and delivered petitions and marched to end poverty wages in Minnesota. His courage to speak out and improve lives of Minnesotans across the state should be encouraged. Instead, Walmart fired Gabe for stubbing his toe at work and reporting the injury. Walmart managers claim that Gabe violated Walmart policy by not reporting the injury that same day even thought it didn't start hurting Gabe til days later. No one should be afraid to report a work related injury. Walmart do the right thing and give Gabe his job back. We Need Bathroom Access- Stop Locking Us Out!Not having access to this bathroom means that we have to take time out of our short breaks to walk across the whole store to go to the other bathroom, if it is open at all. Having these bathrooms open and available would greatly improve the work day of associates who have medical issues that require immediate access to restrooms.11 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Jennifer Sanchez

Walmart: Rehire Ismael and stop retaliating against workersOn January 26th, I was terminated by Kelly Cooper, the manager for Walmart store #1772 in Klamath Falls, Oregon, in what I believe was retaliation for my efforts to speak out for a better workplace. I worked at Walmart for 11 years and didn’t have problems until I started getting involved along with other employees across the country in campaigns for better wages, better benefits and other improvements at Walmart. Since then, I have participated in some rallies and events and I joined a nationwide strike at the end of last year. The management at my store knew I’ve been a part of these efforts and have discouraged my coworkers from getting involved. Recently, things got worse. First, I was given a coaching because a manager said I left eggs out of refrigeration for two hours. Later, she changed her story and said it was for 40 minutes. I kept working after the incident, but on January 15, 2015 I was coached by an assistant manager at my store about half an hour before I was scheduled to clock out on my overnight shift because he said I wasn’t doing all of my work. The problem is that those of us who work overnight shifts are given more work and are responsible for more sections of the store than any one person could reasonably be expected to handle. I told him that I was scheduled to work another half hour to 7AM and he walked away. All of a sudden, he had called the police and had them escort me outside the story. He told me I would be arrested if I came back. Without knowing anything about what this meant for my employment, I was told five hours later that I would be suspended without pay until the store manager came back from vacation. When my manager returned several days later, she said she would open an investigation. Just a few days later, she called me in and told me I would be terminated over the egg incident many weeks before -- for which I had already been coached. This doesn’t make sense. To me, it’s clear that the real reason why I was terminated is because of my involvement with OUR Walmart. I’ve heard of other workers being retaliated against for speaking out about how Walmart treats us and I want this to stop. Please join me in asking Walmart to give me my job back and to stop retaliating against employees who speak out about their jobs. In addition to signing on to this petition, you can call Walmart Store #1772 in Klamath Falls, Oregon at 541-885-6890 and tell store manager Kelly Cooper to put me back to work and to do the right thing and be fair to us workers. Walmart stop bullying Louisiana workers for speaking out!Stand with us -- Brandon Garrett & Tavarus Yates -- and other Walmart workers from Baker, LA who've been illegally fired for speaking out. For years Walmart has been taking advantage of us, their workers. Inconsistent scheduling and pay that gives us 30 hours one week and 12 the next leaves us no way to support our family, pay rent, buy food or even gas to make it to work the next day. Even worse, when we speak out about these problems, Walmart tries to bully and silence us. So earlier this year, we went on an unfair labor practice strike. Under federal law it was our right to do so. Now, Walmart is firing and disciplining those of us who stood up. We have filed charges with the National Labor Relations Board but Walmart needs to hear from its customers that this behavior is not ok. WE need everyone in the Baton Rouge community to speak with one voice on the rights of Walmart workers to engage in federally-protected strikes. We don’t want to hurt Walmart, we just want them to be better! By signing this petition you are supporting us to make sure that Walmart associates who were disciplined or fired are returned to work and their records cleared.262 of 300 SignaturesCreated by Brandon and Tavarus
