American Senior Communities: Stop Violating Workers Rights!
American Senior Communities owns a large number of nursing facilities throughout Indiana. They are actually the largest owner of nursing facilities in the state. Because of this, they frequently get away with violating their employees rights.
Recently they have violated many employees NLRA right to organize a union, our right to address safety issues in the workplace, and many other rights. They rely on their staff not knowing their rights, so they often get away with this because many people don't fully understand "at will" employment. Knowing this, ASC management often will lie to their employees knowing many don't realize it.
It is very important that you know your rights as an employee of American Senior Communities, do NOT just take their word for it when they claim something is legal/illegal.
Even if you do not have hard evidence of a violation, if you feel like they are retaliating against you after you have exercised certain rights, you can still do something about it.
Considering the large number of facilities they own, it is impractical to simply ignore their violations of our rights and just switch to another facility. Even if you manage to go to one not owned by them, these issues will still continue to occur at other facilities. We need to stop letting employers like ASC get away with violating our rights and actually hold them accountable.

Why is this important?
This is important because it is a widespread problem, not only among this company but nearly every company in health care. Many people think they can just go to another job every time these things get to be too bad at one, but all that does is show these employers that they can violate our rights and just run us off. The cycle will then continue over and over as long as nobody wants to hold them accountable.
This affects every employee AND the patients we take care of. ASC sees us as disposable, and no matter how good of an employee you are, they will turn on you as soon as they feel threatened. They don't want us speaking out about safety or our rights.
Even if you feel like you don't have proof, write down dates when you are reprimanded for anything. Save all texts, write ups, etc.
If you suddenly began getting in trouble for something that you were previously doing without issue, that can be evidence of possible retaliation. Other things that can prove retaliation are being reprimanded for things that other employees do without reprimand. Having witnesses can help prove this stuff as well.
