Let us have visible tattoos!!!

Starbucks announced that it has changed its dress code and will now allow employees to show non-offensive visible tattoos, as long as they are not on the face or throat, effective on Monday, October 20, 2014.

I am jumping up and down and am so excited that we can now be more comfortable at work! I'm thrilled that Starbucks listened to feedback from employees like me and has updated its policy. I'm also so thankful to the thousands of baristas and supporters who joined my campaign and shared their stories about why this is important. I never thought my petition on Coworker.org would be signed by so many baristas around the world and it’s great that when we come together, we can make our company better. I’m ecstatic and going out to buy a short sleeve shirt for work right now!

Change the dress code to allow visible tattoos. I believe tattoos are a simple form of self expression and as long as they aren't offensive or explicit, I think we should be able to show off our artwork proudly.

The starbucks mission statement is: "Our mission: to inspire and nurture the human spirit – one person, one cup and one neighborhood at a time."

Does this exclude our tattooed friends??

Being able to show off our tattoos lets us connect with our customers in more ways than we already do.

Over 45 million americans have tattoos. Its art, its beautiful, and its INSPIRING. Its time for Starbucks to get with the times and have some tattoo acceptance in the workplace!!

Why is this important?

I can't tell you how many times I have pumped a syrup of some type DOWN MY SHIRT SLEEVE on accident... Long sleeves GET IN THE WAY!!! We work HARD to keep creating inspired moments in our customers day. We want to be comfortable!! Especially in the hot summer months but working in general in long sleeves is a pain! Please let us get rid of our sloppy, syrup covered sleeves! We wash our hands to keep them clean, but what about those long sleeves getting frap roasted all summer long?

ON THE STARBUCKS WEBSITE IT SAYS:
"Our Partners...
We’re called partners, because it’s not just a job, it’s our passion. Together, we embrace diversity to create a place where each of us can be ourselves. We always treat each other with respect and dignity. And we hold each other to that standard."

A PLACE WHERE EACH OF US CAN BE OURSELVES.

I KNOW our efficiency will IMPROVE with shorter sleeves.

Thanks for all the support! To show Starbucks that we’re proud of our body art, I’m asking fellow employees to join me in taking a photo of your tattoos and sharing them online.

Here’s how:
1) Take a photo of the tattoos you have to cover up at work;
2) Upload it to Instagram and include the hashtags #ToBeAPartner and #SbuxTattoos in the caption.

I hope you’ll join! Stay tuned for other next steps to help the campaign
