Require Movie Theater Employees Get Paid Overtime

Require that movie theater employees, who are paid on salary, receive fair pay for any overtime hours they may have worked in a work week.
Why is this important?
This is important because as movie theater owners continue to make large amounts of money on ticket sales and concessions, overworked and underpaid movie theater employees are left to pick up the pieces. Unlike most industries in the United States movie theater employers are not required to pay their salaried employees overtime. Under the Fair Labor Standards Act, exception was granted to theater owners from the basic overtime provisions that most other employers must follow. Given the current economic climate, movie theater employees are being forced to work longer hours and with more and more films opening on holidays, that is less and less time one can spend with their families. This issue is not one about stagnant wages or giving hand outs, this is about paying people for the hours they have worked. There are countless numbers of theater employees who are forced to work sometimes 50 or 60 hour work weeks and yet receive no extra compensation for that extra effort. That doesn't seem right and is yet another example of those with a lot taking advantage of those with a little.
