Stop Outlier AI (Scale AI) from Withholding Earned Wages from Contractors
We are calling on Outlier AI and Scale AI leadership to immediately stop the practice of closing contractor accounts without notice and withholding earned wages.
Hundreds of contractors around the world have completed legitimate AI training tasks in full compliance with Outlier AI's guidelines, only to have their accounts suddenly closed with no warning, no explanation, and no appeal process — and their earned balances withheld.
This is not an isolated incident. It is a systematic pattern of wage theft targeting international contractors who have limited legal recourse.
We demand that Outlier AI and Scale AI:
- Release all withheld earned balances to affected contractors immediately
- Provide clear written explanations for any account closures
- Establish a fair and transparent appeal process
- Stop closing accounts without notice during pending payment periods
Formal complaints have been filed with the FTC and FBI/IC3. Class action lawsuits are currently active against Scale AI and Outlier AI.
We will not stop until every contractor receives the wages they have rightfully earned.
Why is this important?
Thousands of workers around the world are training the AI models that power the biggest tech companies — yet platforms like Outlier AI (owned by Scale AI) are systematically withholding their earned wages.
I am one of these workers. I completed all my tasks honestly and earned $170. My account was closed overnight with no warning and no explanation. My money was never paid.
This is happening to hundreds — possibly thousands — of contractors globally. Most are from developing countries and have no legal recourse against a US-based corporation.
If we don't speak up together, this will keep happening. Every signature on this petition sends a message to Outlier AI and Scale AI that wage theft will not be tolerated — no matter where the worker lives.
Please sign and share this petition. Help us hold Outlier AI accountable.
