Require customers to wear masks in order to receive service

Why is this important?

“Models show that if 80 percent of people wear masks that are 60 percent effective, easily achievable with cloth, we can get to an effective R0 of less than one. That’s enough to halt the spread of the disease.”

We can do our part to slow the spread of covid-19 by requiring customers to wear masks in order to receive service at Starbucks stores. Starbucks already requires partners to wear masks, but this is only protecting others from employees and is doing nothing to protect employees from customers and does not protect customers from each other.

Starbucks China requires customers to wear masks before entering stores, we can and should do the same here in North America.


Reasons for signing

  • It's protect others! Come on people! Do you not care AT ALL for other people's LIVES?!?!?!?
  • If you don't want to wear a mask, then do not go into places that require one. You may not care about your own life, but at least care about the employees. They have families that they are trying to protect too.
  • Why are we even having to have this conversation?

On July 9, 2020, Starbucks announced: "In its continued effort in prioritizing the health and well-being of partners (employees) and customers, Starbucks today announced that beginning on July 15, it will be requiring customers to wear facial coverings while visiting all company-owned café locations in the US." https://stories.starbucks.com/stories/2020/navigating-through-covid-19/

Uber will be requiring all customers and drivers to wear masks when they resume service. Why aren't we doing the same?

This is not good enough; other retailers are requiring masks and we can and should do the same! Furthermore, this announcement was posted to the customer news page and has not been communicated to partners directly. Once again, Starbucks is only paying lip service for good press. Do better, Starbucks!

Many retailers are now providing, requesting, and/or requiring customers to wear masks. Starbucks can and should do its part to protect its employees, customers, and their friends and families.
