Sick leave for Starbucks Partners

On January 24, 2018, Starbucks announced a new policy related to sick leave: "A new Partner and Family Sick Time benefit will be available to all eligible U.S. partners, which will allow partners to accrue paid sick time based on hours worked and then use them if they or a family member needs care. When this benefit goes into effect this year, Sick Time will accrue at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, thus a partner working 23 hours a week can expect to accrue approximately five days of sick time benefit over the course of one year." https://news.starbucks.com/press-releases/starbucks-announces-new-investments-in-paid-leave-wage

Sick leave for Starbucks Partners

I would like Starbucks to give their partners at least a week in paid sick leave. As a partners of Starbucks for almost 13 years I really would like this to happen.

Why is this important?

I have to save some of my vacation every year just in case I get sick. I am a working partner who can't afford to stay home when I am sick.

Reasons for signing

  • I have worked for SBUX for 4 years now, and have seen people lose almost entire paychecks due to being ill and needing to stay home. I also see multiple people come to work sick because they can't afford to stay home - myself included. Having sick pay would help partners immensely in times of need.
  • I think that we should have sick leave pay.
  • Partners are asked, and in some cases mandated, to stay home when sick due to the health risk involved in handling food/drinks. To encourage best practices, and to account for the REQUIREMENT that partners stay home if diagnosed with or exposed to certain illnesses, paid sick leave should be implemented.
