We are frontline staff at UPMC hospitals who work hard to provide the highest quality of care to the people of western Pennsylvania. Our contributions make it possible for our hospitals to deliver the excellent care our patients deserve and have come to expect.
We are proud to help make UPMC a successful world-class health system. Thanks to our hard work, UPMC made more than $1.3 billion in profit over the last three years. But many of us do not share in UPMC’s success.
UPMC Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer Greg Peaslee wrote in a letter to the editor that “the lowest-paid UPMC full-time employees with families earn $21 per hour with benefits," but the reality is that many of us are struggling. In fact, while UPMC executives are making millions, far too many UPMC employees are living paycheck to paycheck.
Why is this important?
We believe that all people who work hard for a living should make enough to support themselves, their families and their neighborhoods – and that all workers should be treated with dignity and respect.
That’s why we are coming together to call on UPMC to pay all employees a living wage that recognizes our contributions to the health of Pittsburgh and helps build our region's middle class. We know UPMC can do better, and we deserve better, our families deserve better and our communities deserve better.
