Workers Fighting For $15 and a Union at Sakuma Farms

Sign a union contract with Familias Unidas por la Justicia
Raise wages to $15 an hour, abolish the piece rate system
Negotiate with the union for fair and reasonable workloads
Raise wages to $15 an hour, abolish the piece rate system

Why is this important?
Over 200 farmworkers at Sakuma Bros Berry farm who have been engaged in a two-year struggle for a union contract stopped picking blueberries on July 1st and 2nd over inhumane production standards and retaliatory actions against their union Familias Unidas por la Justicia (Families United for Justice). Under the “new” pay scale given to workers at the start of the season; workers are required to pick up to 50 lbs of strawberries every hour for 8 plus hours a day to earn the $10 minimum an hour. Workers who can’t meet these production standards have been threatened with being fired.
Workers are angry with the “new” pay scale that Sakuma’s CEO recently told the public in a letter that there are workers earning $33 an hour, the reality is that many are struggling to earn minimum wage and now the required pounds per hour is changing on a daily basis, for all intent and purpose the pay scale is back to where it was in July of 2013.
Support Familias Unidas por la Justicia in the demand that management negotiate a Union contract.
Until then, BOYCOTT DRISCOLL. And, BOYCOTT SAKUMA BROTHERS.
