    We are risking our lives each and every day when we have to go into work and stock shelves, ring customers up, and almost any other job in the store. We come into contact with hundreds of people each day and this is putting us at a huge risk to get COVID-19. With many states on a ‘lockdown’ or ‘lock-in’ and us being an essential business this proves that we deserve this extra pay for putting ourselves at risk. Many other companies have already done this to show their employees they care, Kroger should too.

  • Give Publix Employees Hazard Pay
    Publix associates come into contact with hundreds of customers every day, and in this pandemic are considered “essential workers.” Publix employs about 89,000 part-time workers who do not receive paid time off for sick leave. During this national emergency, Publix is making record profit. Publix should pay all employees time and a half to compensate for any health-related expenses that may come up during the COVID-19 pandemic.

  • Coronavirus: Whole Foods Workers Need Paid Sick Hours!
    Grocery workers around the country frequently work while sick as they can't afford to miss a single day of work because companies refuse to pay a living wage. This causes employees further suffering and exposes co-workers, food, and the public to potential infection. Jeff Bezos is the richest man on the planet and is more than able to provide an immediate expansion of Paid Sick Hours to protect Whole Foods employees and the public. Bezos has yet to provide his employees at Whole Foods with anything to cope with the recent outbreak. Bezos even had the audacity to cut healthcare benefits for nearly 2,000 Whole Foods employees at the beginning of the year. What Bezos makes in one day could cover a week of Paid Sick Time for all Whole Foods employees. Some co-workers at Amazon have already been told to work from home and other companies have even taken some appropriate action. Whole Foods needs to take this health crisis seriously and stop worrying about public perception and putting profits ahead of safety. We handle the food everyone consumes, push the shopping carts everyone touches, collect the baskets everyone carries, and count the cash everyone spends.   • Reinstate Covid-19 Pay for New Seasons Market Workers
    Covid-19 cases are on the rise and New Seasons has stopped our bonus pandemic pay. Every day we go to work we are put at risk of contracting coronavirus. As of now there is no end in sight of the pandemic. There have been confirmed cases at three of our stores, Orenco Station, Seven Corners and Williams. Workers are anxious that they could be the next to fall ill. Stores are busy adding to this anxiety, the produce departments for all stores were $270,000 over budget the sales week of July 8th to 14th. Stores are comping sales at a higher percentage over last year.

  • NYC Trader Joe's Crew need Safe Work Conditions and Hazard Pay
    Trader Joe’s has a reputation as a store that treats its employees well. However, during the COVID-19 crisis Crew Members have not been treated with the respect and care that we expect from our company. Other companies with worse reputations have done more to protect and compensate and communicate with their employees. The center of the crisis has moved to New York City, and as front-line essential employees who are partly responsible for keeping NYC fed and healthy, we deserve to be treated with respect and protected from illness.

    Employees are experiencing elevated anxiety and fear as they continue their regularly scheduled shifts at the eye of the pandemic storm, especially those who are considered at-risk. Hazard pay would go a long way in terms of increasing morale and knowing their employers recognize the hard work and health risks they face amid this global crisis. According to the UN, hazard pay is “a form of compensation granted to staff members who have been requested to remain and report for work in duty stations where very hazardous conditions, such as war or active hostilities, prevailed and where the evacuation of families and nonessential staff had taken place.”

    Grocery stores have been deemed an essential service yet their employees are not being protected from Covid-19. These workers are being forced to be exposed to potential infection over and over daily and are also forced to potentially carry disease home to their families. These workers are incredibly vulnerable and are not being protected by their employers or the government.
