• COVID-19: Amazon, Please Extend Paid Sick Coverage To All Your Fulfillment Workers
    Many Amazonians at the fulfillment centers have had to call out sick during the Coronavirus outbreak and urgently need Amazon to expand paid sick coverage. We are very grateful that we are allowed to take unlimited sick days this month, but only those of us in quarantine for the Covid-19 virus, and who test positive will be entitled to extra sick pay — which amounts to a mere handful of thousands of Amazonians company-wide. Currently, testing for the Coronavirus remains highly inaccessible to millions of people in the United States. Amazonians who are unable to get tested shouldn’t have to suffer financial duress for staying home, so as not to spread the virus to their coworkers and the public — not knowing if they’ve contracted Covid-19 or not. For Amazon workers who have tried to get tested, many of us have found it next to impossible, because testing at this time is largely only available at the ER, and for people who are showing acute symptoms. Mr. Bezos, please bring smiles to your Amazonians by expanding paid sick coverage to all your workers at the fulfillment centers. March has been a rough month for us and for all Americans, and there seems no end in sight. We'd be so very grateful for this act of goodwill from our CEO.

  • Demand Spec's Give Employees PTO or Switch to Curbside Pick-up Only
    Spec's corporate num: (888) 526-8787 E-mail: [email protected] Closing Spec's or at the minimum switching to curb-side pick up during this pandemic of the coronavirus is crucial. This is a respiratory virus, and the only way to stop the spread of the virus is to stay away from others. The CDC has advised all non-essential businesses to close to contain and slow the spread of the virus. Spec's is NOT an essential business and demanding employees stay at work during this time is negligent and detrimental to workers, customers, managers, and the public. Some Spec's branches have even disregarded directives from the management of the shopping centers they are located in to decrease hours, keeping regular store hours (Mon. - Sat. 10am - 9pm) and not limiting customer interactions whatsoever. Managers refuse to close during a time of increased profit, when customers who have the benefit of working from home are stocking up on non-essential items like fine wines and cheeses at the expense of Spec's employees and the general public. Although washing your hands frequently, limiting customers (which Spec's is not doing), and disinfecting the store is helpful, that will NOT prevent the spread of coronavirus. At this point, there is no way to know who has the coronavirus, due to the limited number of tests. Suspending all business hours, until further notice, while continuing to pay both hourly, and salary workers is absolutely necessary. At minimum, allow employees who consent to stay on to work pick-up orders only, limiting interaction to putting together phone orders and ID/age checks when customers pick up. Employees and customers may display no symptoms while still being able to transmit the virus to others. Employees have to go home to their families who may be immunocompromised, have asthma, diabetes, or other conditions that make them more severely impacted by illness. By going to work, they are increasing the risk of themselves, their family, and customers of catching the virus. Instead of waiting until an employee shows symptoms of the virus, closing all stores would prevent its' further spread. In the meantime, other measures should be taken to disinfect employee work spaces and limit customer interaction to a minimum.

    Us drivers have been left alone, sitting for weeks in quarantine to save our lives with no pay and unable to work. We get cussed, hit, called names, guns in our faces and treated badly for you, so why arent you now there for us? We are losing homes, cars, all we worked for. Many dont have food, a safe place to stay. We for sure cant get the tests you require, many states there are none! As for a doctors note....we are quarantined and doctors are overwhelmed, and we shouldn't have to! We've toiled to make you billions!     Retail pharmacy employees may not be out on the emergency front lines risking health with every patient that enters, such as hospitals and other first responders but as a health care provider pharmacies will remain open and still putting themselves at risks. As everything else is closing around us people will flock to CVS to stock up on necessities, pick up their medications or even just as an excuse to leave the house. As a leading health care provider CVS should be setting the standard for what pharmacies should be doing and how they should be approaching the social distancing aspect while still providing excellent care to both it's customers and employees.

    The Coronavirus pandemic has already forced many businesses to close for their customers safety and their staffs safety. Despite the government offering to pay 80% of people’s wages Costa Coffee has refused to close its sites. Staff members should not have to be exposed to potential life threatening illness when the government is so willing and able to help people avoid it.

    Target-owned Shipt, a delivery service, is currently hiring thousands of new shoppers in cities across the United States to meet the rising demand for home delivery of essential goods during this crisis. Shipt workers shop for and deliver groceries, medications and household supplies from local retailers. During this global crisis, we shoppers are working on the frontlines and risking our safety. The current policy--providing 14 days of financial assistance to those who test positive for COVID-19--isn't enough. In many cases, access to tests is limited or unavailable. Shoppers may need to be--and some already are--under self-quarantine due to exposure to COVID-19 or due to a sick or at-risk family member. Shoppers need expanded paid leave to provide us with the crucial support needed to make the safest decisions for ourselves, for Shipt customers, and for the community at large. Many Shipt customers are high risk populations--elderly, immunocompromised, and those with underlying medical conditions. It is imperative that Shipt shoppers have the support that they need to make safe, informed decisions that keep everyone as safe as possible. Grocery store retailers--including Trader Joe's and H-E-B--have begun making movements in this direction, implementing hourly pay raises, expanding paid leave, and introducing new safety protocols. On March 20th, Target, Shipt's parent company, increased wages, provided bonuses to team leads, and extended paid leave for higher-risk Target employees. With more and more shelter-in-place orders being enacted around the country, our work is vital. With estimates that 1 in 2 Americans will contract COVID-19 in the next year and the duration of enforced time off from work, Buddy Boy needs to adequately protect their employees that are putting themselves at risk for the company. All the responsibility now falls on us to adequately protect ourselves, which we cannot do if the company we work for will not provide for us.     Publix associates come into contact with hundreds of customers every day, and in this pandemic are considered “essential workers.” Publix employs about 89,000 part-time workers who do not receive paid time off for sick leave. During this national emergency, Publix is making record profit. Publix should pay all employees time and a half to compensate for any health-related expenses that may come up during the COVID-19 pandemic.

    Update : Most of our store are now doing curbside pick up even as the Virus is becoming more and more serious Experts now say the covid-19 is going airborne we have no masks and subway gloves which mean even more contact the employees have to make .Lives are at risk. Several customers come in every day not knowing if they’re sick due to the shortage of tests. Even though there is no dining in the store, there still are small crowds in small lines that form. During orders, some of them have already displayed signs of sickness. Hazard pay would be at the very least since we are not offered sick day leave.

    In a letter to the Harvard community, President Bacow wrote, “I am proud to be a member of a community where people put the greater good above their own self-interest;” and he urged students, faculty, and staff to “temper increased distance with deeper care for one another.” In this time of crisis, Harvard should put the good of its employees ahead of the university’s narrow budgetary interests. Harvard should lead in demonstrating a spirit of care by ensuring that all workers at this university, whether directly hired or subcontracted, will be paid for the rest of the semester so that they can weather this pandemic.

  • Keep workers safe and pay them sick pay
    My son works for one and he said they dont get sick pay and he cant wear rubber gloves cause he has to keep removing them and hes a single dad with a toddler at home in his sole care. All these delivery companies need to do way more to protect their employees. Not only are they putting them and their families at home at risk but they are also putting their customers at risk. And Starbucks should definitely shut down!
